In our last two meetings, we started assembling cardboard cars with our new Tamiya double gearbox motors!
Using scrap cardboard from around the MakerSpace, we put together frames for our cars. Check out some of the cool designs in the gallery above! We also used random circular objects from around the room (shower curtain rings, door knobs, plastic bottle caps) as wheels. It was awesome to see so many unique ideas spawning from simple scrap material lying around.
In our November 12th meeting, we learned some soldering basics, and soldered wires to our gearboxes. Almost everyone got the hang of it quite quickly, and the final gearboxes looked ready to go. Next meeting, we plan to set our gearboxes in place and power the robots with Arduinos. The eventual plan is to use an Ultrasonic Sensor to detect obstacles, and have the robot drive around and avoid anything in its path.
